Overly Dead is the first outing from Subculture Sage, a project that sees the pairing of London based Tropical producer ‘Subculture Sounds’ and Jungle/Grime MC ‘Hypeman Sage’. They’ve cooked up a sound that, whilst giving a nod to Hip Hop’s heritage, is firmly rooted in London’s cultural mosaic, infusing urban grit with tropical and Asian colour.

The video for the track was shot in London by young, award winning director Ben Garfield. It mirrors the contemplative tone of the track, capturing the subtlety of Sage’s expressions as he reflects on the solitary nature of himself as an MC.

An impressive roster of musicians and creatives have enlisted in the project including acclaimed photographer Paul Phung, Mixmag, Roundhouse film makers, Mahogany Sessions and the man who recorded all of Wu-Tang’s early hits, Yoram Vazan.

Self-released under Subculture Sounds’ Twisted Hearts banner, Overly Dead is the first taste from the duo’s forthcoming album.
